The main purpose of physiotherapy is the evaluation and treatment of injuries and pathologies related to the neuromusculoskeletal system.
NEURO – nerves
MUSCULO– muscles and tendons
SKELETAL– joints, cartilage, ligaments, bones
Damage to any of the above structures may cause pain, numbness, burning, pins and needles sensation, swelling, stiffness or weakness. The role of the physiotherapist is to identify the structure that causes the above symptoms so that treatment is targeted to that structure and recurrence of the injury is prevented.
In the first physiotherapy session, we take a thorough history of the patient and we perform a detailed clinical examination with special tests to determine the nature and cause of the injury. The physiotherapist can then use his hands to mobilize stiff joints, design a specific program of healing exercises to strengthen weak muscles and advise on activities that should be avoided in order to speed up recovery.
The main purpose of treatment is to restore normal, symmetrical and pain free movement.
